The Science of Activity

The benefit of physical activity is well documented by scientists. Incorporating physical activities for the whole family to participate in together can be a great way to have quality family time and keep active.

Children aged 3 to 5 should engage in active play for at least 3 hours each day. Children age 6 to 17 should engage in at least one hour of moderate to vigorous activity a day.

Physical activity has many health benefits: it strengthens the heart and can help improve bone health and fitness, lowers blood pressure, improves sleep quality and reduces the risk of diabetes. It also stimulates brain growth, motor skills and cognitive development. It improves learning and memory and helps children achieve better in school.  The body releases the hormones  endorphins and dopamine. These are natural pain relievers that also create a feeling of well-being and happiness and lower the risk of depression.
